Cyber Security

Power Operational Systems and specially protection and control ones are exposed to a growing number of threats related to the fast evolution of information technologies.Several factors such as the use of standard technologies and off-the-shelf solutions among others.

Reducing the risk to ensure availability of Operational Systems is a key task that must be considered to guarantee system operation continuity.

Achieving the required degree of protection without impairing performance of protection and control functions is a challenge that has to be overcome by cyber security functions. This goal is hardly achieved using standard IT or data-center cyber security solutions not only for the harsh environmental requirements but also because they have been designed to fulfil other performance requirementsthat does not match those of operational systems.

Pullnet offers specialized cyber security solutions for operational systems. A family of Firewalls designed to protect real-time operational systems that implements protection principles of IEC 62351 and a simulator able to evaluate the protection level of the operational system showing how the system is affected by different cyber-attacks.

Agent-7 FW Firewall Family

AG7

Agent-7 FW series of Firewalls provide a solution to cyber security challenges of modern substations. Out of their capability to work on harsh environments, Agent-7 FW series implement protection functionalities specified by IEC 62351 as well as other cyber security functions specialized in the protection of IEC 61850 automation systems.

In addition to Cyber Security functions, Agent-7 FW series include advanced routing facilities with the protocols used in operational application including MPLS access routing capabilities.

Up to now, the estimation of the protection level of a cyber security scheme was a difficult task with no mathematical solution but thanks to the latest developments in system modelling, simulation of system behavior in front of cyber-attacks can be carried out. Simulation shows the effect of cyber-attacks on every component of the system functionallowing the level of severity to be determined.

Pullnet offers professional services that help evaluating the protection level of an automation system thus identifying its vulnerabilities and the effect of cyber-attacks. Using the latest advances in this field, Pullnet has developed its own models of protection and control systems both based on traditional technologies or on IEC 61850.

Using these models it is possible to assess the degree of protection and the fulfilment of protection and availability requirements.
